Transform 285/400 Interchange Closures: Summer Look Ahead!

Construction is heating up for the Transform 285/400 project! We have several traffic shifts planned for the coming months that include the opening of newly constructed bridges as motorists continue seeing benefits from roadway improvements.

The Transform 285/400 project will continue to enhance safety by reducing traffic on mainline I-285 and SR 400 through the implementation of new traffic shifts and the use of collector-distributor (CD) lanes to connect local exits.

In the coming weeks, motorists traveling eastbound on I-285 will use Exit 25 to enter the CD lanes to access Roswell Road, Glenridge Drive and SR 400 northbound and southbound.

Other traffic shifts happening this summer include moving traffic on SR 400 northbound and southbound back onto the mainlines from the CD lanes. The SR 400 northbound shift occurred on June 27.  The southbound shift is scheduled for later in July. There will also be a new exiting pattern from SR 400 northbound to Abernathy Road opening soon.

Noise Barrier Update

Noise barrier work will continue along the Transform 285/400 project throughout August. The work remaining for noise barriers includes not only the installation of the remaining post and panels, but also painting, installing doors, and flashing as well as final grading and the installation of concrete ditches. For this work to be completed along the noise barriers there will be a few sections with missing panels to allow workers to gain access behind the barrier. In certain areas the noise barriers remain open due to bridge construction needing to be finished before the completion of the noise barrier.

Check out the updated noise barrier construction schedule/maps for both I-285 and SR 400.

Mount Vernon Hwy Update

The Transform 285/400 project developed a plan to demolish the existing bridge and build a new, four-lane bridge to better accommodate the increasing traffic on Mount Vernon Highway. The demolition of the prior bridge is complete and construction of the second half of the new bridge is coming to an end. The work remaining includes roadway tie-ins to the bridge, utility work, and widening to incorporate the two lanes in eastbound and westbound directions.
