Keep Atlanta Fresh & Clean: Join the Million Air Challenge!

Spring is the season of renewal—a time for fresh air, fresh routines, and fresh opportunities to make a difference. While many of us focus on spring cleaning our homes, what about cleaning up our commutes?

This April, Georgia Commute Options (GCO) is challenging commuters across Atlanta to log their clean commutes and help us reach our collective goal: keeping 1 million pounds of CO₂ out of our air as part of the Million Air Challenge!

What's clean commuting?

A clean commute is any trip that helps reduce single-occupancy vehicle (SOV) travel. That means:

🚲 Biking – Enjoy fresh air while cutting down emissions.
🚶‍♂️ Walking – A simple, zero-emission way to get moving.
🚌 Transit – Reduce traffic and relax while MARTA does the driving.
🚗 Carpool/Vanpool – Share the ride, save money, and reduce congestion.
🏡 Remote Work – The ultimate pollution-free commute!

By making the switch, you’ll save money on gas, lower stress levels, improve your health, and contribute to cleaner air for everyone in metro Atlanta.

How to get involved:

Try a Clean Commute – Whether it’s taking transit, biking, or working remotely, every trip counts.

Log Your Trips – Use the MyGCO app to track your clean commutes between April 1-30.
Earn Perks & Prizes – By logging your trips, you’ll be entered to win exciting prizes, including:

🌿 (2) Grand Prizes: A Family Plus Annual Gift Membership to Atlanta Botanical Garden
🏞️ (4) Runner-Up Prizes: A Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Annual Combo Pass

Give Back to the Environment – Log 10 clean-air commutes in April, and Perimeter Connects will donate $10 to Trees Atlanta, helping plant more trees across metro Atlanta! Our goal? $1,000 in donations for a greener city.

Exploring the benefits of car sharing

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Meet Pacman, Yoga, Lo, and Maccan. These four Perimeter area Zipcars are conveniently located at the North Springs and Dunwoody MARTA stations. If you take transit, they’re perfect for mid-day errands and meetings.

Zipcar, a car sharing service, asks users to join as a member, which allows you to rent a car at an affordable hourly rate. Gas and insurance are included, and reservations are made online. Zipcars range in sizes and shapes to fit your needs. In Perimeter, select from “Pacman” – the Nissan Sentra, “Yoga” – the Honda Civic, ”Lo” – the Ford Escape, or “Maccan” – the Honda CRV.

Zipcar members can use cars from hundreds of hubs around the world. Zipcar is one of the world’s largest car sharing companies, so you’ll be able to get around town even when you’re vacationing in another city.

For Perimeter commuters, pairing Zipcar with the train or bus is a convenient combination. Instead of sitting in traffic every day, you could take transit, carpool or vanpool to the office and use Zipcar for any necessary errands or mid-day meetings. It is not only a less stressful way to get from one place to another, but also an incredibly cost-effective approach compared to car ownership. In the long run, it also generates enormous social benefits such as less air pollution and overall reduced traffic congestion.

Perimeter area commuters have access to four Zipcars. Three are parked across the street from the Dunwoody MARTA station, in the Northwest corner of the Perimeter Expo parking lot. At the North Springs MARTA station, the Zipcar is located in the first parking spot in in the covered parking deck, close to the station entrance. For more information, visit www.zipcar.com.
